Who runs MeraLearn

Questions about anything on this page go to hello@meralearn.com.

About students

A student's teacher adds them, or they join a class with the code their teacher shares. For each student MeraLearn keeps:

  • their name, as it was typed — a first name and an initial is plenty
  • the class they are in
  • their six-character code
  • each round they play: the score, accuracy, time taken, best streak, the terms they missed, and whether it was practice
  • what they write on a Role Player sheet, and each mission they play on it: the choices they made and the stars it came to
  • any note their teacher writes about them or a round

When a teacher lets guests into a game, someone can also join that one game with its PIN and a name. MeraLearn keeps that name and the round they play, and nothing else; both are deleted with the game, unless the teacher moves the round to a student in their class.

Without an account of their own, MeraLearn does not ask for or keep a student's email address, password, date of birth, photo or location.

Student accounts

A student can make an account of their own, so their classes and rounds follow them from class to class. It is optional — the code their teacher gives them works without one. An account keeps:

  • the student's name and email address
  • which classes the account is in

The password is held by Supabase Auth, the sign-in service MeraLearn uses; MeraLearn never sees or stores it. Rounds played in a class are kept as that class's records, as above. A teacher sees that a student has an account, never the email address.

A student can delete their account at any time from their account page. Their sign-in and email address are deleted straight away. The rounds they played stay with their classes, as their teachers' records, no longer linked to an account.

About teachers

A teacher has an account, made by invitation. MeraLearn keeps their name, their email address, and what they make: subjects, units, terms, classes, students, sessions and their plans of which topic they teach which class on which day. Their password is held by Supabase Auth, never by MeraLearn.

Someone applying to teach tells MeraLearn where they teach — the kind of place and its name — and gives at least one proof: a teaching certificate or qualification, a teacher registration number, or a work email. A certificate is kept in a private file store, not the public one below: only the teacher and the person who runs MeraLearn can open it, each time through a link that stops working after five minutes. MeraLearn keeps one certificate per teacher; uploading a new one from Settings deletes the old one.

To teach a subject, a teacher asks for it: their qualification in it, how many years they have worked in it and taught it, where, one document — a qualification, a CV or a reference — and a declaration that all of it is true. The document is kept in the same private file store as a certificate, and only the person who runs MeraLearn can open it, through a link that stops working after five minutes. MeraLearn checks documents; it does not certify teachers or issue qualifications.

A teacher can have a public page, at play.meralearn.com/t/ and a name of their choosing. It is off until they switch it on. Switched on, anyone with the link can open it, without signing in, and search engines can find it. It shows what the teacher writes there — their name, a line about them, about them, where and in which languages they teach, and a photo if they add one (an upload, public like the others below) — and, from MeraLearn, their level on the teachers' board, the subjects MeraLearn checked their documents for, how many students they teach and since when they have been on MeraLearn. Never their email address. The person who runs MeraLearn can hide a page.

The page can also list classes the teacher offers: the subject, when it meets each week and in which time zone, online or where, the price the teacher asks and how many places are left. A student with an account can ask for a place, with a message if they like. The teacher sees the student's name and that message, and nobody else does; if the teacher accepts, the student joins that class like any other. MeraLearn does not take payment for these classes — the price is paid to the teacher directly, as the two of them agree. A request is deleted when the teacher stops offering the class, or with the class or the student's account.

A teacher also has a student side, with the same email address and password, so they can join someone else's class. Deleting the student side leaves the teacher account as it is.

Cookies and browser storage

MeraLearn sets one cookie, when a teacher or a student signs in — with a code, a class's join code, a game PIN or an account — and only to keep them signed in. It cannot be read by scripts on the page and lasts at most seven days. There are no advertising or analytics cookies.

The game also remembers a few things in the browser's own storage, so a refresh does not lose them: the student's name and code, their last result, their sound settings, and whether they pinned Your topics to show as cards or as a list. Choosing to use a different code clears the student's details. The teacher dashboard remembers a few of a teacher's own choices the same way, on the device they use: how they like the Subjects page laid out, the topics they opened last, and how long a student counts as inactive. This website remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme, and whether you paused its moving parts with the pause button in the header.

Who can see what

  • A teacher sees everything about the students in their own classes and their rounds, and nothing of another teacher's.
  • A student sees their own results and history, and nobody else's history. With an account, they see their rounds from every class they are in; each teacher still sees only their own class's.
  • A session's leaderboard shows the names and scores of everyone who played in it. Which terms another student missed, and any note their teacher wrote, are shown only to that student and the teacher.

Files teachers upload

Pictures, videos and music that a teacher uploads are stored in a public file store: anyone with the link can open a file, without signing in, and the link does not expire. Every upload screen says so. Teachers should not upload photos that identify students.

Where it is stored

The MeraLearn app runs on Hostinger. The database and uploaded files are held by Supabase, and so are sign-ins — email addresses and passwords — through Supabase Auth. The connection between the app and the database is encrypted, and the database's certificate is checked every time.

These are every service that holds or sees anything about you, as of 17 October 2026. MeraLearn has no advertising or tracking services, and sells nothing about anyone.

YouTube, Vimeo, LoomOnly a video a teacher added, and only once you press play (see above).Their own, under their own privacy policies

If MeraLearn starts charging teachers, the payment service is added to this list before it does. Everything travels between these services encrypted.

The website and the app serve their own fonts: nothing is loaded from Google or any other font service.

Teachers can add videos from YouTube, Vimeo or Loom to a topic, for their students, and show some on their public page. MeraLearn does not store these videos, only which video it is. Nothing is loaded from YouTube, Vimeo or Loom until you press play; once you do, that service's own player runs and it sees your IP address and its own privacy policy applies. YouTube's player is its privacy-enhanced mode, and Vimeo's is asked not to track you.

Read aloud in the games uses a voice your own device runs. MeraLearn never uses an online voice, so the words it reads stay on your device; where a device has no voice of its own, the button does not appear.

How long it is kept

  • Anything a teacher deletes waits in the bin for 30 days, so a mistake can be undone, and is then removed permanently.
  • Backups of the database are deleted after 30 days, so something deleted from MeraLearn is gone from them a month later too.
  • Archived students and sessions are removed permanently after 12 months.
  • A teacher can clear a whole class's results at any time.
  • A student account goes as soon as the student deletes it, and a guest with the game they joined.
  • An application to teach, with its certificate and details, is deleted as soon as it is turned down. A teacher's are kept for as long as they have a teacher account, and deleted when they ask.
  • A teacher's public page is kept until they ask for it to be deleted; switching it off hides it at once.
  • A request to teach a subject, with its answers and document, is kept for as long as the teacher has an account, so a turned-down request can be changed and sent again. Taking it back deletes it and its document straight away; for a subject they already teach, a teacher asks MeraLearn to delete it.

Asking for a copy or a deletion

To see, correct or delete what MeraLearn holds about you, email hello@meralearn.com. Students with an account can delete it themselves, from their account page. Students can also ask their teacher, who can change or delete their details directly. If your school needs a data-processing agreement, get in touch.

Changes to this page

If this page changes, the date at the top changes with it, and teachers are told about anything that affects what is kept.
